A graduate of Valley View High School, Attorney Shane Scanlon went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Marywood University in 2000 and his Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law in 2003. That same year, he was admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
He immediately began his career at the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office, where he served from 2003 to 2018. During his time as a prosecutor, Attorney Shane Scanlon handled an extensive range of cases — from juvenile offenses and DUI charges to high-profile criminal trials. In 2010, he was appointed Chief Prosecutor of the County’s Narcotics Unit, managing a team of attorneys and detectives focused on prosecuting narcotics, firearms, gang-related crimes, and asset forfeitures.
Leading With Purpose as District Attorney
In January 2016, Attorney Shane Scanlon was unanimously appointed by the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas to serve as District Attorney — a role he held until January 2018. During his tenure, he supervised grand jury investigations and was sworn in as a Special Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In this capacity, he oversaw wiretap investigations and felony prosecutions related to narcotics trafficking.
One of his most notable initiatives as DA was the launch of Heroin Hits Home, a community-based program designed to combat the devastating opioid crisis through education, prevention, and outreach — a testament to his commitment to both justice and public health.
