Shadow of the Tomb Raider begins in Mexico, but quickly moves the action to Peru, where Lara tries to prevent the cataclysms she caused and (as always) stop the organization that is Trinity. As usual, she is hot on Lara’s heels and forces her to take dramatic steps. However, the young archaeologist is no longer simply a girl forced to kill, but a perfectly trained – one might say – robot. He kills without unnecessary sentiment whenever necessary. Lara Croft’s obsessions
Some people may not like Lara’s new character, because the heroine, along with her acquired toughness, has lost much of her likability. It’s hard to like her from the beginning, because Lara has become overconfident, and her search and desire to reveal the secret have turned into an obsession. Even if her decisions harm others, Lara’s thoughts are only focused on achieving her goal – although over time she begins to notice how her determination affects the people around her. On the other hand, knowing her experiences allows us to understand this attitude.
Lara’s certain “confidence” can be seen, for example, in the scene where she helps Jonah and pulls a parasite out of his wound. The girl knows perfectly well how to act quickly and actually does it, but she is not very nice and does not support her friend mentally. Moreover, whenever he tries to reason with her, Lara immediately changes the subject or simply does not accept any suggestions that she might withdraw from her mission.
Another issue is that the Trinity really hurt her and the desire for revenge in such a case is not strange. However, the “new” Lara, a tough and domineering assassin, may be a bit off-putting at the beginning. The Polish dubbing also contributes here – Karolina Gorczyca has already voiced Lara, but this time it sometimes sounds like she doesn’t want to do it anymore. Although it’s not a problem as you can set the original sound and not worry about Polish dubbing.
The prettiest Tomb Raider ever
The graphics of Shadow of the Tomb Raider deserve praise. The locations are beautifully made and in many situations you would just like to stand and take photos of the views. The light falling in the jungle or the water shining in the sun show the higher graphic level of the game. The characters’ faces have also been made graphically more realistic – they look better, but completely different than in the previous part (and personally I like Lara’s face from Rise of the Tomb Raider more).
Lara works quietly in the jungle
The game mechanics have been enriched with new elements. Croft can now craft special potions to improve her health and stamina, and can shoot hallucinogenic arrows at enemies. There is definitely more silent elimination – of course, you can go with a traditional shooter, but Lara works great as a silent killer. It can hide in new elements of the environment and wait for its chance.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider full of absurdities?
Speaking of stealth, let’s move on to the absurdities of the game. Maybe I won’t comment on the famous fight with the jaguar and the real possibilities of surviving it – let’s just say that okay, it’s just a game, and the game has its own rules. For example, if you can jump somewhere, you can. But if you can’t, then the smallest beam will be an insurmountable obstacle for Lara with almost superhuman physical fitness, whose ice axes materialize in her hands…
